  • Customs

    The legal status of U.S. service members stationed in Germany is governed by special international agreements, such as the NATO status of forces agreement. Active-duty service members and family members are governed differently under SOFA rules.

  • Detachment 1, 52nd Operations Group

    The mission of Detachment 1 is to foster bilateral defense ties, enhance regional security, and increase interoperability among NATO allies through combined training exercises with periodic rotational aircraft.

    Department of Defense Dependent's Schools operates schools on Spangdahlem Air Base with classes ranging from kindergarten through 12th grade.

  • Employment Opportunities

    There are different source of employment at Spangdahlem Air Base. Keep in mind however that there are fewer options here than at  your typical an overseas environment.

  • Energy: Utilities in Germany

    Utilities are more expensive in Germany than in the United States. Additionally, utilities are paid in local currency, the Euro, which means costs will vary based on the exchange rate. Bills are much different in Germany than in the United States; here, you may pay monthly or quarterly depending on

  • Finance

    The 52d Comptroller Squadron Finance Operations Flight provides pay and entitlements support to military and civilian employees.

  • Finding A House

    The Spangdahlem Housing Office assists eligible service members and civilian employees in securing a home on the economy, or on the Air Base.

  • First Term Airmen

    All first term airmen are required to attend the First Term Airmen's Center upon arrival at Spangdahlem. Courses are one week in length, and run semi-monthly.

  • Furnishings Management Office

    Knowing that you are entitled to Full-JFTR is very important. With this entitlement, government furniture support is on a loaner-basis only.

Base history

   Spangdahlem AB and the 52nd Fighter Wing have a rich history. The wing has seen many people and aircraft come and go throughout the years, but one thing remains the same. The 52nd has always been prepared to SEEK ATTACK DESTROY.

F-16 FIGHTING FALCON

   The F-16 Fighting Falcon is a compact, multi-role fighter aircraft. It is highly maneuverable and has proven itself in air-to-air combat and air-to-surface attack. It provides a relatively low-cost, high-performance weapon system for the United States and allied nations.
