Airmen explore the Eifel

ECHTERNACH, Germany -- Forty-plus kilometers of lush green trees, centuries-old stone steps and cool, forest air await hikers who venture to the Germany-Luxembourg border. Located near the bustling town of Echternach, Luxembourg and along the Sauer River are trails that wind through forests and parks. Distinct, colorful markings on the trees keep hikers from getting lost, and the scenery along the way is anything but boring. Added bonus: parking near the Echternach bus station is free and so is hiking. It’s advisable to wear comfortable shoes with quality tracking, apply sunscreen and bug spray, and bring plenty of water and snacks. (U.S. Air Force photo by 1st Lt. Kathleen Polesnak)
