Located at the Oppenheim Airfield on the banks of the Rhine River, this event features static displays, aerial demonstrations and live bands. Ticket prices range from 10 to 55 euro. Fight tours are available at www.flugtag.org or www.gig-factory.de. The 28th annual wine festival of Rachtig wine takes place Aug. 24 - 26. Foehren hosts a carnival, the well known "Bartholomaeuskirmes," Aug. 24 - 27. The event starts at 8 p.m. Friday evening with a rock and pop concert. A local flea market takes place Aug. 25 in front of Landstuhl Toom market. Enjoy an Open-Air rock event in Hontheim Aug. 25 at 9 p.m. at the old U.S. Army caserne area. Manderscheid Jousting Festival occurs Aug. 25 - 26. This medieval celebration includs a jousting tournament, a craft market and a fireworks display. Admission varies from 4 to 7 Euro, children under 11 are free. A hiking trip takes place Aug. 26 to Sept. 1 at the Naturpark Suedeifel with SWR 4 Radio and the local TV station SWR. If you go to only one Weinfest this season, make this the one. The fireworks display/battle is probably one of the best you will ever see. The fireworks are Saturday evening only. The Mosel town of Reil will host their annual wine festival Aug. 31 to Sept. 2. Enjoy two spectacles of "illuminated countryside" in the radiance of the "Rhine in Flames" in September in Oberwesel and St. Goar-St. Goarhausen. Wine is served strictly in very large glasses. Listen to music by the Rheinland-Pfalz Police Orchestra Sept. 8 at the Manderscheid Kurhaus. Oktoberfest occurs Sept. 22 - Oct. 7. The Mayor of München kicks off Oktoberfest Sept. 22 at noon by tapping the first keg of beer. Only after he has tapped the barrel are visitors allowed to start drinking.
