In the spirit of the season, I wish you and your families an enjoyable and restful holiday, and another year of memorable moments, notable accomplishments and safe travels.

2009 has been an eventful year, to say the least. From inspections, to wing events, to collaborating with our Host Nation communities, we've generated an impressive list of accomplishments and experiences that helped make the 52nd Fighter Wing the number one fighter wing in U.S. Air Forces in Europe.

Among the high operations tempo, multiple inspections - sometimes occurring simultaneously - and daily business that help our wing function, it's important to take a step back and evaluate our achievements and challenges. While it's natural to reflect at the end of the year, assessing what you do and how you do it should be a year-round activity. I challenge you to take time throughout the next year to assess your work, yourself and your teammates to make continuous improvement a habit rather than an annual overhaul.

With that said, although I'd really like to, it would be impossible for me to recognize each and every Saber, unit or organization and their accomplishments in this forum, so I will simply say two words - Thank You! Thank you for your hard work, drive, positive attitudes and motivation you have invested in each other and this wing to make it not only mission-ready, but also a standard-bearer for other wings across USAFE and the Air Force.

Whether you're strolling through Christmas Markets, traveling or resting at home, I encourage you to take time to enjoy the last few weeks of 2009 with your friends and family. We are privileged to live in a country that offers a wealth of exciting, cultural experiences year-round and especially during the winter months. Please continue to make responsible choices and help others do likewise so we can start 2010 safely, with ready and refreshed Sabers to meet the challenges awaiting us on the other side of the holidays.

Mara and I are proud to have the opportunity to collaborate and celebrate with all of you, and day in and day out, we are impressed by your dedication to make integrity, service and excellence synonymous to what we believe is the best wing in the U.S. Air Force. Happy holidays, Sabers!
