Sabers with various backgrounds and professions stopped by the Job Fair May 11 in Club Eifel to explore job opportunities offered by base units and agencies.

Representatives from the commissary, services, marketing, colleges from the education office, base restaurants and others were strewn across the ballroom of Club Eifel. Stations lined the walls for potential employees to browse information and ask questions. Interviews took place in the center of the room for available job openings.

The child development center was one of the agencies looking for new employees. The organization also provided information about child care for Sabers who may have less time on their hands once they find a new job, said Sheri Cooper, CDC director.

"We're here to make the community aware of the opportunity to take care of children," Ms. Cooper said. "We're interested in those who want to make a difference and be part of an amazing team.

"A lot of people move in, and transfers and young military wives don't quite know what to do for work," she said. "There are great opportunities here; we offer an extensive 18-month training program to prepare employees for the job."

Not all booths at the job fair were looking to hire. The 52nd Force Support Squadron Marketing Department pushed information out to potential base employees who were likely new to the area and could make use of base information, said John Olson, 52nd FSS marketing department director.

"This is my fourth job fair and many are here to hire and find employees," he said. "Those searching for work are wondering what's going on and what the FSS is about. We want to educate them and pass our information on; we want to keep as many people on base informed as possible."

Although not at the job fair to apply for work, Mr. Olson said the event is beneficial for new Sabers and those out of work.

"I don't think anywhere else in one room can you go and get such a broad scope of local employment opportunities," he said. "You can look all around at what's available - this is convenient and in your face. It's a huge benefit and I wish I had this in college when I hit the pavement looking for jobs scrambling through newspapers, and this is great."

Leslie Dobbs came to the job fair in search of a secretarial or office job. She took advantage of previous job fairs in Royal Air Force Station Lakenheath.

"I came here to find a job, something to do with secretary or office work," Ms. Dobbs said. "I'm a secretary, and I'm sticking with what I know."

Ms. Dobbs also found the resources at the job fair useful and convenient.

"I do (find the job fair helpful); it's nice to have all of this in one area and be able to do it all in one place," she added.
