Spangdahlem, Bitburg to receive E-10 gasoline option Published Feb. 23, 2011 SPANGDAHLEM AIR BASE, Germany -- E-10 gasoline will become available at the Army and Air Forces Exchange Service gas stations at Spangdahlem Air Base and Bitburg Annex the end of February. Below are facts and common questions about E-10 fuel: Why use E10 fuel? Bio-fuels play a role in climate protection, producing fewer greenhouse gases compared to conventional fuels. Using bio-fuels involves using raw materials that regenerate themselves and help to conserve global oil reserves. Who can use E10 fuel? Only vehicles designed for E10 fuel use are compatible. About 90 percent of all gasoline-powered cars can use the bio-fuel. Many newer vehicles are compatible. Vehicle manufacturers can tell consumers whether their vehicle is E10-compatible. A list of E10-compatible vehicles can be found at http://www.adac.de/infotestrat/tanken-kraftstoffe-und-antrieb/benzin-und-diesel/e10/default.aspx. This list also contains phone numbers for vehicle manufacturers that can provide further information. What are other important things to know? Before filling up with E10 for the first time, you must make sure that your car is compatible with E10. All vehicles not certified as E10-compatible should use only the conventional types of gasoline as they can suffer irreparable damages if filled with E10 only once. The pump for E10 shows the grade of fuel with "E10" added on. For example, "Super E10." Additional information can be found through vehicle manufacturer Web sites and www.dat.de/e10.
