Name: Staff Sgt. Beverly Adams

Unit: 703rd Munitions Support Squadron

Duty title: Unit personnel reliability program monitor

Hometown: Collinwood, Tenn.

Years in Service: Six years

Why joined: Before I joined the military, I was a correctional officer for two years in the state of Tennessee. I really enjoyed the job and the people I worked with; however, I felt I needed a change of pace. I wanted to see the world and do something different. So when people say, "It was the military or prison," it's actually true in my case.

Family: My fiancée, Emily, currently resides in Tampa, Fla., where she is finishing her Master's degree. My mother, Barbara, along with my brother and his wife, Charles and Christie, currently reside in Collinwood and work for the Sara Lee Corporation. My sister, Allyson, lives in St. James, Mo., with her husband, Burke, and their three children.

Hobbies: In my spare time, I enjoy Sharpie art, cycling and going to school to finish my degree in criminal justice.

Favorite aspect of job: My favorite aspect of the job is working with and helping people. Sometimes it takes compassion, empathy and patience when working in the customer services realm. A frustrated customer-service representative does not present a positive image to the client. Patience is not only a virtue in customer service; it is a necessary skill to deliver excellent service. I try my best to help every customer out and be their positive experience.

Most memorable Air Force experience: My most memorable Air Force experience was the repeal of the Don't Ask, Don't Policy. It feels great to serve my country knowing that my service is now characterized on my performance and abilities as an Airman and not my sexual orientation.

How do you make responsible choices: I make responsible choices by always putting my commitment to the Air Force first over my personal desires.
