Name: Staff Sgt. Christian Omar Navarro-Salazar

Unit: 470th Air Base Squadron

Duty title: Unit Security Manager

Hometown: San Diego, Calif.

Years in Service: 9 years

Why joined: To serve, travel and to succeed in life.

Family: Wife Yun Jung, and son Christian.

Hobbies: Trying new foods, traveling and building robots with my son.

Favorite aspect of job: Security Forces is a very distinguished career field. In my opinion we are held to a higher standard and I like that. It has always been my goal to have a career in which my duty to assist other people and give back to my community. Security Forces has all these things to include the authority to enforce the standards. Security Forces is a satisfying, dynamic, ever-changing job that never stays the same.

Most memorable Air Force experience: Working as the Instructor for the Integrated Ground Defense Course in the United Arab Emirates. This course integrated ground combat tactics with our deployment's host nation Security Forces and US Army patriot battery personnel. This gave me the opportunity to experience the Emirates culture, values, and the food was great too.

How do you make responsible choices: I tend to use lessons learned when making responsible choices. I use my prior failures and poor choices or the choices of others to vet my next choice. I look at my current goals and if that choice does not help me achieve those goals, then I rule it out.
