Millions of dollars are flowing into Spangdahlem's military family housing to support the growing mission and base population.

The 52Nd Civil Engineer Squadron is committed to not only rebuilding, but recreating a neighborhood friendly housing community.

The first phase of the housing construction involves the building of 79 single family and duplex units. To make way for the new housing, the project contractor has already begun to demolish 8 buildings which will be completed May 2007. Ground will break for new construction in May 2007 with an estimated completion date of Dec. 2008 for all 79 units.

Of the remaining 10 stairwell buildings, seven will continue to be occupied by military families and the remaining three buildings will be utilized for temporary lodging. New construction will consist of housing for seven senior officers, 24 senior NCOs three and four bedrooms and 48 junior NCOs three and four 4 bedrooms. An unusual addition to the typical housing unit is the introduction of heated flooring. Other amenities will include ceramic floor tiles, bedrooms with carpets and single car garages.

Phase Two Construction will consist of 60 new family housing units with a projected start date of September 2007 and an estimated completion date of May 2010. Two additional buildings will be demolished in this phase to create a housing footprint for 11 field grade officers three and four bedrooms, four company grade officers four bedroom and 45 junior NCOs there and four bedrooms.

"The Housing Office promises to provide base residents a better understanding of the housing plan and what they can expect," said Denise Hastye, 52nd Civil Engineer Squadron Housing Office Flight chief.
