Wing encourages camaraderie during Sports Day Published May 28, 2013 By Staff Sgt. Daryl Knee 52nd Fighter Wing Public Affairs SPANGDAHLEM AIR BASE, Germany -- A wing-wide Sports Day takes place at Spangdahlem AB May 30, 2013. The event includes activities throughout the day and is designed to enhance 52nd Fighter Wing camaraderie and esprit de corps. "If you're playing on a team sport, you're building relationships," said U.S. Air Force Col. Joseph McFall, 52nd FW vice commander. "And for those who are not playing, you absolutely should come out and cheer on your fellow squadron mates. Supporting your team is as important as being on the team." Each group-level unit is in charge of sponsoring a different sport. Airmen wanting to represent their squadrons may form teams. However, as each sport requires a different number of players, interested Airmen should contact their unit's sports representative for further clarification. The deadline for the squadron participation letter of intent is May 28 at 4 p.m. "It's a development process - you have to figure out what each person's role is on the team," said Senior Master Sgt. Robert DeGennaro, 52nd Security Forces Squadron and event coordinator. "In the office, you have different strengths than on the field. It's a team-building exercise to see what each person brings to the fight. "But at the end of the day," he said, "we shake hands and are still part of the Saber team." The attire for participants is appropriate athletic civilian clothing or the Air Force Physical Training Uniform. The time, locations and events are as follows: Golf at 8 a.m. at the Eifel Mountain Golf Course; basketball at 9 a.m. at the indoor basketball court; walleyball at 9 a.m. in the walleyball court; bowling at 9 a.m. at the bowling center; kickball at 9 a.m. at the youth center field next to the running track; a barbecue from 11:30 a.m. - 1:30 p.m. at the bowling alley pavilion; dodgeball at 1 p.m. at the indoor basketball court; and a leadership tug-o-war competition at 1:30-3:30 p.m., at the bowling alley pavilion.
