Make sure you contact your gaining unit so a sponsor can be assigned to you.
No matter how many times you've moved, or even if you've been to Spangdahlem before, you need to contact your sponsor. They can help make sure you're aware of current pre-arrival requirements, in-processing details and other pertinent information. Your sponsor will assist you, as well as any family members and pets, with a smooth transition to Spangdahlem.
Your new unit will appoint a sponsor for you; if you're not contacted in a timely manner after receiving your assignment, reach out to your gaining unit or 52nd Force Support Squadron Airman & Family Readiness Center. To contact the A&FRC, call DSN 314-452-6422 or email firstname.lastname@example.org.
Upon your arrival, your sponsor will assist with transportation to the base and work with you throughout your in-processing steps. Your first step will be in-processing with the 52nd FSS's Military Personnel Flight. First Stop takes place every Monday, Wednesday and Friday at 8 a.m.
Next, you will attend Newcomers Orientation, which takes place every Wednesday from 7:45 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Newcomers Orientation includes the driver's safety briefing, which is needed before you can be issued you USAREUR driver's license. To register for Newcomers Orientation or for more information, call the A&FRC.
As you're preparing financially to make the move, be aware that getting settled in Germany comes with significant up-front costs, such as security deposits, registration fees and more. Talk with your sponsor about specific costs for your family, housing, and vehicle situation.
A comprehensive information resource can be found by visiting Spangdahlem's Military Homefront website.
Good luck and welcome to Germany!
