Spangdahlem Elementary School students, staff and teachers will temporary relocate to Bitburg Elementary School starting the 2015/2016 school year.

The relocation will allow contractors to remodel and develop new additions to the current facility as part of the 52nd Fighter Wing's effort to move all schools to Spangdahlem and transition Bitburg Annex back to the German people.

"We are confident this is the best course of action in the interests of the children and will best provide an uninterrupted learning environment in which they can flourish," said U.S. Air Force Col. Joe McFall, 52nd Fighter Wing commander, and Dell McMullen, Kaiserslautern District Schools superintendent, in a joint letter to parents.

Currently, SES can hold about 510 students and is geared to support nearly 870 upon project completion. The scheduled completion date of the school is February 2018, with the school opening later that fall.

"Ultimately, the safety and well-being of the students and staff of the school is the driving factor for consolidating Spangdahlem Elementary School with Bitburg Elementary School temporarily," said Chi Anne McGrew, 52nd Mission Support Group school liaison officer.

Department of Defense Dependent Schools and 52nd FW leadership invite community members to attend a town hall, 4 p.m., March 10 at the base theater. to discuss the relocation.

"We appreciate your continued patience and understanding throughout this process," McFall and McMullen stated. "Rest assured that the end result will best ensure the strongest possible learning environment not only for our children but for future students who may call Spangdahlem Air Base their home."

Community members can submit their questions or concerns about the relocation prior to the town hall, via the Spangdahlem Facebook page at https://www.facebook.com/events/1556699697931840 Questions will be addressed at the town hall.
