The CFC promotes and supports philanthropy through a program that is employee-focused, cost-efficient and effective in providing federal employees the opportunity to improve the quality of life for all. Nearly 40 base community members attended the event, sampling free grilled food, chips, beverages and outdoor activities provided by CFC squadron representatives and volunteers. "This is a great campaign," said U.S. Air Force Col. Steve Horton, 52nd FW vice commander. "It's been around for 50-plus years, so think about it when you reach down in your pockets and throw some change towards CFC's ways. You can do it here or through the online registration and it runs throughout November." Thousands of charitable organizations are featured annually throughout the CFC, the world's largest workplace charity campaign with almost 200 campaigns running throughout the U.S. and overseas raising millions of dollars each year. The list of organizations includes health and human services to aid children, wounded warriors and many more. "As federal workers, you have chosen to devote your careers to serving your nation and your fellow citizens," said President Barack Obama in his statement for the Texas Gulf Coast CFC 2014. "Every day you protect us from threats abroad and right here at home. Going above and beyond your daily duties, you've also answered the call of the CFC, contributing more than $6 billion since 1961 - each of you should be proud of this achievement." Those interested in researching the charitable organizations featured this year are urged to visit the official CFC here. For more photos of the event, click here.
