The Bitburg High School Barons know that a person can substantially improve their health and quality of life by including only moderate amounts of physical activity in their lives.
Therefore the Bitburg High School Barons will be joining world class ultra marathon runner Paul Staso on his 620 mile run across Montana. The run for fun begins on April 28th and will be completed on May 15th 2008, a total of 18 days. He will push a stroller of gear and he will average 34 miles per day from the North Dakota border to the Idaho border without taking a day off, enduring various weather conditions and demanding terrain!
During this run Paul Stasso will be virtually racing teams of young people, who are located in schools around the globe, ranging in age from kindergarten through 12th grade. They will run/walk at school and in local sports while he will actually be on the road aiming to inspire, motivate and educate. Some of the teaching goals he is trying to achieve are:

1. The importance of good health and nutrition, as well as the benefits of frequent and consistent exercise.
2. The benefits that can be experienced from running and or walking (the original way to better fitness)
3. That if you take care of your body, it can take you on some wonderful adventures.
4. A lot of interesting information about the 4th largest state in the United States, Montana.
5. The importance of setting goals and pursuing your dreams no matter what they are.
6. That a positive attitude and the desire to positively impact the lives of others can be very rewarding.
7. That perseverance can take you places that you never thought you could get to.
The Barons have entered two teams consisting of physical education classes. The Bitburg Barons Blue Team consists of the Life Sports classes of Blue Two, Blue Three and Blue Four. The Bitburg Barons Red Team consists of the (PAN) Physical Activity and Nutrition classes of Red Two and Red Three.
Paul Stasso will be covering 241 miles per week for the 18 days across Montana. For a team of 60 students to keep up with him, each student will need to contribute 4 miles per week. That will be the goal of the Blue and Red Teams of Bitburg High School.
There are approximately 7000 students that have registered to take part in this virtual race across Montana. From the United States, there are 60 teams signed up from 18 states. From overseas, there are 11 teams signed up from five countries. All this information can be found on the HOMEPAGE of www.pacetrek.com. You may follow the P.A.C.E. TREK 2008 by going to this web page!
