Anita R. Deegan, niece and goddaughter of U.S. Army Cpl. Horace M. "Buddy" Thorne, Medal of Honor recipient, and Matthew B. Deegan, nephew of Thorne, lay flowers in remembrance of him, near Grufflingen, Belgium, Sept. 24, 2018. Thorne was posthumously awarded the MOH in 1945 for displaying courageous fighting qualities and inflicting costly casualties on the enemy.
