Memorial Day
LUXEMBOURG CITY, Luxembourg – Airmen of the 52nd Fighter Wing Honor Guard present the colors during a Memorial Day ceremony at the Luxembourg American Cemetery and Memorial May 24, 2008. Many of the cemeteries in Belgium, the Netherlands and Luxembourg, where U.S. servicemembers are buried, have local nationals who have adopted the American graves. It is common for them to honor the fallen servicemembers on Memorial Day by decorating the graves as an expression of appreciation for their freedom and the sacrifices made by Americans on their behalf.
