SPANGDAHLEM AIR BASE, Germany -- A memorial stands in honor of the 506th Parachute Infantry Regiment, 101st Airborne Division, in Bastogne, Belgium. The 506th PIR, also known as Easy Company, was made well-known by the popular television series “Band of Brothers.” The soldiers of Easy Company were deployed to resist the advance of German forces in December 1944. With limited supplies and ammunition, the outnumbered American soldiers successfully held the town of Bastogne until reinforcements arrived.
