Bonfires: Say goodbye to winter
PREIST, Germany - Local villagers in Preist, a community located outside of Spangdahlem, observe the lighting and burning of the bonfire in their neighborhood. By tradition, the fire has a special significance: on one hand it is a symbol for the sun and on the other hand it purges the village by burning the evil. Historically winter was considered evil since it brought a lot of hardship and worries. (U.S. Air Force Photo/Iris Reiff)
