Middle school students dig for history
SPANGDAHLEM AIR BASE, Germany – Garrett Ericson, son of Michael Ericson, a Bitburg Middle School counselor, swirls dirt samples around in a jar of water to separate biological samples out of soil from a dinosaur excavation site during class here Oct. 12. Scientists from the Paleontologist Research Institute donated the 10,000-year-old soil from a mastodon excavation site in Hyde Park, N.Y., to the Bitburg Middle School. The lab experiment gave the students important insight into what processes scientists use to search for remains at excavation sites. (U.S. Air Force photo/Airman 1st Class Dillon Davis)
