Explore the mosel region
SPANGDAHLEM AIR BASE, Germany -- Spangdahlem residents live at the doorstep of a delightful wine region, where some of the finest white wines in the world originate. The wines are sweet and fruity, and the wine growing area of this region has more than 25,000 acres. Riesling vines cover 75 percent of the area and the rest cultivated are of the grapes are Mueller-Thurgau, Elbling and a few other varieties. The average annual yield is about 22 million gallons of wine. (U.S. Air Force photo/Iris Reiff)
