Military Personnel Section protect ID card holders

SPANGDAHLEM AIR BASE, Germany – Tech. Sgt. Lisa Brooks, 52nd Security Forces Squadron, types a personal identification number during a new Common Access Card issue at the military personnel section here Oct. 26. The Department of Defense recently began removing social security numbers from Common Access Cards to protect the personal identity information of service members and their families. This initiative has three phases, which began with the removal of family member and all active-duty social security numbers, and social security numbers embedded in bar codes will be removed beginning in 2012.
