Local children honor St. Martin

SPANGDAHLEM AIR BASE, Germany -- Parents with their children participate in a past St. Martin parade through the village of Spangdahlem. Local townspeople celebrate St. Martin Day, which is always Nov. 11, with a number of traditions one of which is a torchlight procession through the Eifel’s communities. The dates for celebrations vary from town to town and the processions sometimes take place a few days prior or after Nov. 11. People can ask their landlords or local mayors for details about the date, time and starting point of their town’s procession. Most parades kick off between 6 and 7 p.m. (U.S. Air Force photo/Iris Reiff)
