The F-16 Whisperer: Legend retires after nearly 40 years of service

SPANGDAHLEM AIR BASE, Germany – An axe rests upon a custom Airman Battle Uniform blouse during the retirement ceremony of Alois Schmitz, 52nd Component Maintenance Squadron fuels systems repair shop, Aug. 17 in Hangar 3 here. The 52nd CMS Accessories Flight presented the axe to Schmitz as a parting gift. The blouse name tape reads “Cobra Schmitz,” which was Schmitz unofficial radio call sign.
