Polish students visit Powidz AB

POWIDZ AIR BASE, Poland — U.S. Air Force Maj. Matthew Spears, commander of the Aviation Detachment 1, 52nd Operations Group, briefs nearly 100 students from the Zespol school district on the recent activation of the Av-Det during a community outreach day at Powidz Air Base, Poland, March 8, 2013. The Av-Det was activated in October 2012 after a Memorandum of Understanding was signed by the Polish Defense Minister authorizing a U.S. continued presence in the region. More than 60 U.S. Military personnel and aircraft from Ramstein Air Base, Germany was in Poland to support Exercise Screaming Eagle V, a bilateral exercise promoting defense ties in the spirit of the 2008 U.S.-Polish Declaration on Strategic Cooperation.
