A trio of Uhus (Eurasian Eagle Owls), watch as visitors to the Adler und Wolfspark in Pelm bei Gerolstein tour the park's bird habitat. The Eagle Owl is found in mountains and forests with cliffs and rocky areas, usually nesting on cliff ledges. They live for around 20 years in the wild, but with proper care can live as long as 60 years in captivity.

A Bartkauz, or Great Grey Owl, swoops down from a wall of the Kassleburg Pelm during the Adler und Wolfspark in Pelm bei Gerolstein bird show. The Great Grey Owl uses the advantages of its uniques ear positioning and the tufts of feathers around its keen eyes to listen to and watch for prey; they then swoop low for their catch. They have excellent hearing, and can capture prey moving in tunnels beneath 60 cm (2 feet) of snow.

The Eurasian Vulture is one of the oldest known vultures; they typically live and breed in crags in mountains in Europe, north Africa, and Asia.

Herr Ludger Kluthausen walks in the rain as he describes the abilities of a Schleiereule (Barn Owl/Screech Owl) during the Adler und Wolfspark in Pelm bei Gerolstein bird show. The Barn Owl is the most common species of owl, and one of the most widespread of all birds. The Barn Owl can hiss like a snake, and when captured or cornered, it throws itself on its back and flails the sharp talons on its feet.

The Butterfly Garden

SPANGDAHLEM AIR BASE, Germany – A chameleon shows off its colors at the Butterfly Garden in Grevenmacher, Luxembourg July 6, 2008.
