The community of Binsfeld values the friendship it has with its American neighbors. This friendship between the base and the community has developed across decades.

This is why members of the Binsfeld sports association developed the idea of hosting a sports event incorporating Germans and Americans, to help showcase the long-lasting friendship.

The eighth German-American Friendship Run will take place July 3 this year. The race is held annually each summer.

"The run is just another opportunity for us to spend time with our American neighbors and value friendship," a sports club member stated.

The day starts with a 400 meter Bambini run for children up to age 6 at 9 a.m. followed by an 800 meter children's run for 7-10-year-olds at 9:05 a.m. and a 1,700 meter children's run for 11-14-year-olds at 9:15 a.m. The adult runs include a 5,000 meter senior adult run at 9:30 a.m., a 5,000 meter Nordic-walking and walking march at 9:35 a.m. and finally a 10,000 meter senior adult run at 10:15 a.m.

Award presentations will take place shortly after the last runners have passed the finish line and times have been calculated.

"We are very proud of the tradition that a wing representative always starts off a run with the starting signal," said Ewald Stuckart, an event organizer.

"Everyone is welcome to participate, especially family members and athletes who can spare the time," an organizer said.

Again this year, the sports association promises participants a lot of fun and challenges as well as cash prizes for the winners.

A number of free T-shirts will be given away for those who register early. To register, email lauf-binsfeld@web.de or call 06575-610. For more information, visit www.sv-binsfeld.de or call 06575-610. Registrations will be accepted now through July 3. People can register until one hour prior to the run.

An award ceremony will take place after the events. Beverages and food will be available to runners and observers.
