McFadden 52nd Fighter Wing Public Affairs SPANGDAHLEM AIR BASE, Germany -- And the winner is... the Eifel Powerhaus! Sabers cast more than 1,400 votes across email, Facebook and at a ballot box to name the new fitness center. By popular demand, "Eifel Powerhaus" won with 498 votes, exactly 200 more than its closest rival, "Spangdahlem Memorial Fitness Center," in a five-name race. The contest ran from Feb. 27 to March 13 and included both names as well as "Saber Sports Center," "Spangdahlem Fitness Center" and "Eifel Fitness Center." Col. David Julazadeh, 52nd Fighter Wing commander, selected the five potential names from a pool of submissions sent by fans of Spangdahlem's Facebook page. The new fitness center opened Jan. 13 and replaced the Skelton Memorial Fitness Center as Spangdahlem's main operating fitness facility. It had been referred to as "the new fitness center" until Julazadeh opened the naming competition to the general public. Vote totals -Eifel Powerhaus - 498 (34.9%) -Saber Memorial Fitness Center - 298 (20.9%) -Saber Sports Center - 259 (18.1%) -Spangdahlem Fitness Center - 208 (14.6%) -Eifel Fitness Center - 165 (11.6%)
