Project CHEER adds spice to life of single, unaccompanied Airmen in USAFE

  • Published
Enhancing the quality of life for single and unaccompanied Airmen is what Project CHEER is all about. Project CHEER stands for Creating Hope, Energy, Enthusiasm and Recreation for our young Airmen and runs November through March annually.

The Project CHEER program is gearing up to be the best yet with more than $140,000 in cash and in-kind sponsorship- all to be used for prizes and implementing a variety of amazing and unique programs.

The 2008 Project CHEER program will feature cash prizes, a Wrestlemania trip giveaway and hundreds of exciting and fun events throughout the season. Also, new to the program is the unveiling of a Web site www.projectcheer.org featuring information on prizes, giveaways, events and all the U.S. Air Forces in Europe command programs taking place.

This year's programs offer great USAFE Services command programs to include: Glow-in-the-Dark Golf, USAFE Paintball Challenge, USAFE Texas Hold'em Tournaments, Fantasy Football, Survivor Challenge, Cosmic Bowling and Merry Movie Magic. For details on these programs at your base check with your local Project CHEER HQ or go to www.projectcheer.org.

It's designed to provide additional support to single and unaccompanied Airmen ages 18-25 during the winter months and holidays when needed most. The special interest program develops and implements special events and programming that provide Airmen with various opportunities to socialize, relax and enjoy themselves.

According to Mandy Smith-Nethercott, USAFE's command Project CHEER POC, there are hundreds of different activities bases can offer as a part of their Project CHEER program.

"Each base will host a variety of fun activities for Airmen such as ski trips, fitness runs, Armed Forces Entertainment concerts and movie nights," Ms. Smith-Nethercott said. "To find out more on any of the programs you can go to www.projectcheer.org."
