In an event that would make the Cookie Monster green with envy, the Spangdahlem Officers Civilian Spouses Club provided almost 10,000 cookies to unaccompanied Airmen here.

Baking a dozen cookies for every unaccompanied Saber in the Eifel region living in the dormitories was the end to a more than two-month planning and baking campaign to spread joy during the holiday season.

"I like making things for people," said Jennifer Decker, wife of Capt. John Decker, 52nd Fighter Wing Staff. "It makes me happy," she said.

Many of the Airmen here are away from home, family and loved ones for the first time, and the OCSC wanted to bring them a familiar taste of home.

The OCSC, with donations from the commissary, made gift bags with baked holiday treats and other assorted goodies.

"Baking has always been a huge deal to me," said Mrs. Decker.

"There are so many projects that you can get involved in, especially around the holidays," said Melissa Corman, wife of Maj. Scott Corman, 726th Air Mobility Squadron.

During the holiday season, Airmen may feel lonely and alone being so far from home.

"I came home after a 12-hour shift to an unexpected bag of treats on my doorstep," said Airman First Class Jason Kahawaiolaa, 52nd Equipment Maintenance Squadron. "During the holidays, being away from home can wear on you," he said.

"It's just a little gesture, but it really does help," said Mrs. Corman. "It's something I'm proud to be involved in," she said.

"When people take a time out to do something nice for others, it feels great," said Airman Kahawaiolaa.
