Lapse in memory can lead to loss of AAFES privileges Published Feb. 5, 2008 By Staff Sgt. Tammie Moore 52nd Fighter Wing Public Affairs SPANGDHALEM AIR BASE, Germany -- Since the consolidated shoppette opened, there has been an increased trend of people 'forgetting' to pay for their gas. Whether caused by a lapse in memory or on purpose, there are repercussions that can be taken against members of the Eifel community who leave the shoppette without paying for their fuel. The fueling area is monitored 24-hours a day with video cameras. If someone drives away without paying for their gas, the videos simply have to be reviewed to identify the offender. An active-duty violator faces charges under Article 121 of the Uniform Code of Military Justice, said Capt. Eric Johnson, 52nd Fighter Wing Legal Office chief of general law. Punishments under Article 121 range from verbal counseling to a letter of counseling or even could lead to a courts-martial. In addition, offenders may lose their Army and Air Force Exchange Service privileges and have their license suspended. Dependants may also lose their AAFES privileges, Captain Johnson said. Department of Defense employees could also face disciplinary actions from their employer. Contract employees, who are found guilty, will be punished based on the contract they hold. The shoppette management is currently reviewing what the stores peak fueling hours are to determine when the fuel kiosk will be manned.
