‘Welcome to the region’ New Trier regional brochure available to Spangdahlem newcomers Published Aug. 25, 2008 SPANGDAHLEM AIR BASE, Germany -- Spangdahlem Airmen will now have the chance to learn about the picturesque Trier region, long before they arrive on station for their new assignment in the Eifel. A new information and welcome brochure, initiated by the Host Nation Council, an association that promotes German-American friendship in the Eifel, presents an overview on tourist attractions, local history and culture. Also, a map outlines the different towns and communities, pointing out where people can find attractions around the base - and it are all published in the English language. Host Nation Council board members, with local leaders, officially presented the 31-page pamphlet to the wing here Thursday at the Eifel Conference Center. "The idea was to create something new for the American newcomers. With this brochure, we would like to offer our American citizens an overview of highlight sights and tourist attractions in the area, at the same time introduce the wonderful region to our dear American friends and neighbors," said Dr. Michael Dietzsch, Host Nation Council chairman. "The Eifel area has indeed become their 'home away from home,'" he added. Col. Tip Wight, 52nd Fighter Wing commander, thanked the Host Nation Council for the brochure. "The brochure is wonderful," he said. "It has a lot of interesting information and is certainly a welcome gift to our Airmen. It will be very useful for our new Airmen as they arrive." The colonel expressed his appreciation for the continuous support and friendship the 52nd Fighter Wing has received by the Host Nation Council over the years. The new Trier region welcome brochure will be available to Spangdahlem members in sponsor packages, at the weekly newcomer's briefing and through the Airmen and Family Readiness Center. Currently, there are 20,000 copies available and will also soon be available online.
