Sabers looking for a challenge to start the New Year can participate in the Skelton Memorial Fitness Center's Biggest Loser challenge.

The challenge begins with initial weigh-ins and body fat percentage measurements Jan. 3, and the contest will last the entire month of January.

"This is a good place to start for people looking to lose weight," Mark Geairn, 52nd Force Support Squadron fitness and sports director, said. "People sometimes need motivation, and competition can be a good motivator."

The competition is self-paced and participants can take advantage of any of the fitness programs the fitness center offers, including various aerobics programs and spin class. People who want a more personalized workout can choose a personal trainer starting at $30 a session.

The final weigh-ins will be Jan. 31 and the winners, one male and one female, will be decided after the calculations have been made. The biggest losers will receive prizes for winning.

"It is not about just losing the weight, it's about maintaining a healthy lifestyle," Mr. Geairn said. "This competition is just the beginning to achieving good fitness."

Any person with access to the fitness center is welcome to participate. For more information, call the fitness center at DSN 452-6634.
