Ultrasound services to move to Spangdahlem

Ultrasound services will be moving from the Bitburg Annex clinic to the main clinic located on Spangdahlem Air Base in March 2011. Relocating ultrasound services is part of the 52nd Medical Group's continual effort to improve access to essential medical services here.

All "mission relocations" require a team approach, and this effort is no different. Members from diagnostic imaging, medical logistics, and medical information systems consulted with the physician staff to ensure all the necessary steps were taken to make the move a success.

An ultrasound, or sonogram, is a medical imaging technique used to visualize subcutaneous body structures including tendons, muscles, joints, vessels and internal organs for possible disease or damage. The ultrasound device uses high-frequency sound waves, which are above the human audible range, to reflect off structures under the skin to create an electronic image medical staff and the patient can see. The procedure is 100 percent safe and most frequently used for the imaging and evaluation of abdominal organs, as well as superficial lesions and masses.

This new service will complement the 52nd Medical Group Diagnostic Imaging Flight's traditional X-ray capabilities. Services are available 7:30 a.m. - 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday. The service is located in Bldg. 137 Room 115.

For more information on the services provided or the flight's new location, call DSN 452-8115.
