Spangdahlem launches long awaited MyMC2 app Published Feb. 12, 2013 By Tech. Sgt. Kenya Shiloh 52nd Fighter Wing Public Affairs SPANGDAHLEM AIR BASE, Germany -- The 52nd Fighter Wing launched the long-awaited My Military Community application, or MyMC2, for iOS and Android device users Feb. 12, 2013. Spangdahlem joins two other bases in U.S. Air Forces Europe to employ the app for the Saber community. To download the MyMC2 mobile app, visit the Android or the Apple mobile app stores, type MyMC2 in the search box and follow the directions. The free mobile app was developed by the 375th Communications Support Squadron at Scott Air Force Base, Ill., for the sole purpose of keeping Air Force members connected to events happening at their home stations via social media sites. The app streamlines events gathered from various 52nd FW Facebook pages into one location so users have the information they want right at their fingertips. "People become more and more dependent on smart phones to help organize their daily lives," said Senior Airman Jacob Beeman, 375th CSPTS, application development programmer. "With that in mind, the MyMC2 app cuts down the work of sifting through several Facebook pages to find out what events are happening on and off base by consolidating them into one easy-to-use calendar." The app itself is easy to use. For example, users can choose to view certain activities according to their personal preferences by filtering events by category. Take the case of a dog lover who likes to travel; if the user wants to see events based on those interests alone, he or she can choose from a list of categories that include pets and travel. If that option doesn't appeal, then the user can browse events according to the date they're scheduled to occur. So far, there are more than 20,000 users and 36 bases Air Force wide currently using this mobile app. The 375th CSPTS expects this number to grow in the coming months as more people learn about the app's capabilities. "The MyMC2 application is a great tool for us, from a marketing stand point," said Heather Klabunde, 52nd Force Support Squadron marketing manager. "The app pulls event information from all 21 of our 52nd FSS Facebook pages and consolidates it for the user, with no extra work on our part." In addition to the calendar are features that include a telephone/Facebook directory and hot buttons, which allows the user to call the 52nd Security Forces Squadron or Airmen Against Drunk Driving with just the click of a button. "This [app] provides users one great place to find everything happening on and off base in a calendar-type format." Klabunde said. "There's no need to scroll through all the different pages to find info. If a user finds something he or she likes, our Facebook pages and phone numbers are right there in the app. I think this is a win-win for everyone."
