Super Saber Performer Published Feb. 28, 2013 By Staff Reports 52nd Fighter Wing Public Affairs SPANGDAHLEM AIR BASE, Germany -- Name: Staff Sgt. James Speicher Unit: 480th Aircraft Maintenance Unit Duty title: Cannibalization manager Hometown: Johnstown, Penn. Years in Service: More than eight years Why joined: I wanted to serve my country, and get a college education. Family: My wife, Trista; stepson, Joshua Ojeda; son, Gavin; and daughter, Emmalin. Hobbies: Spending time with my family, hunting, fishing, camping, snowmobiling, and watching the NFL football. Favorite aspect of job: Constantly improving my knowledge of my job every day. There is always something new to learn. The Air Force keeps throwing new challenges at me and striving to meet the needs of the mission shows my true caliber. Most memorable Air Force experience: Deploying to Iraq three times in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom. Deploying in 2009 to Bagram Air Base and being the first F-16 squadron in Afghanistan supporting Operation Enduring Freedom. My first no notice deployment to Italy for Operation Odyssey Dawn was also memorable. How do you make responsible choices: Often, we lose sight of the fact that we make conscious, hopefully responsible, choices every day. We all have the capacity to focus our awareness on what is right, as well as, the consequences of our actions. Knowing this, I focus on doing my very best every day here at the 480th AMU, and carry that into my personal life by being a responsible husband and father. Only I can make the choices that lead to my personal happiness. The habits that I create through the choices that I make will have a serious effect on the outcome of my life.
