Daryl Knee 52nd Fighter Wing Public Affairs SPANGDAHLEM AIR BASE, Germany -- A three-day Air Force Health Services Inspection began at the 52nd Medical Group March 18. The inspection is designed to provide base leaders an independent snapshot of how well their medical group provides care. "It's our job to take care of our community," said U.S. Air Force Maj. Jared Dahle, Spangdahlem HSI project officer. "All of the elements and criteria for the inspection just verify the requirements that we already know we do." The inspection focuses on three major categories: expeditionary medical operations, in-garrison medical operations and organizational management. The nine-member inspection team will first sift through hundreds of program binders and official records, evaluating medical's documentation efforts. Then, the inspectors will hold in-person interviews, offering a chance for the group's staff members to discuss their individual piece of the mission. The inspection assesses the unit for compliance, Dahle explained, but the overall goal of the medical group is to provide the best care to their patients -- compliance with the standards is a by-product of sustained excellence. The inspection team will discuss their findings throughout the week, with the overall result released Thursday morning. The results range from unsatisfactory to outstanding. The medical group expects a great score, said Troy Lillemon, Spangdahlem HSI representative. However, the staff members strive to provide the highest level of care regardless of any inspection-team visit. The HSI normally takes place every three years. However, as of 2013, it is scheduled to take place every two years.
