Bitburg Commissary reduces hours, saves resources Published May 15, 2013 By Senior Airman Natasha Stannard 52nd Fighter Wing Public Affairs SPANGDAHLEM AIR BASE, Germany -- The commissary at Bitburg Annex is changing its hours May 15. The change is in an effort to reduce wasted resources while still supporting its customers before the scheduled closure this November. Defense Commissary Agency leadership requested the change, because the amount of customer traffic went down 50 percent from the previous fiscal year. The commissary's new hours will be 10 a.m. - 6 p.m., Wednesday through Sunday. Additionally, the deli and tobacco areas will close June 13 due to a decrease in sales. "Though only 62 families live on Bitburg, the Bitburg Commissary will continue to stock its high-demand items and provide outstanding service until it closes," said Lt. Col. Richard Cole, 52nd Mission Support Group deputy commander. In order to best take care of all of Saber's needs, the current Spangdahlem Commissary will double the size of its frozen food section before the winter holiday season. It will also increase the number of shelving to handle dry goods and continue to provide high-demand products sold in the Bitburg Commissary.
