The spin and free weight rooms at the Skelton Memorial Fitness Center will close Jan. 9, 2014.

The closure is part of the building's eventual transition to the installation's newly constructed fitness center which is scheduled to open Jan. 13.

"This building has been up since the 1950s," said Master Sgt. Noleo Pagaduan, 52nd Force Support Squadron section chief for fitness and sports. "It's time for a new one."

More than 20 volunteers from various squadrons will assist 52nd FSS during the move.

"Most of the equipment over there will be brand new," Pagaduan said. "The only things we don't have brand new are the weight plates, dumb bells and spin bikes."

The remainder of the Skelton Memorial Fitness Center will stay open until Jan. 12. After that, the fitness center's upper floor will remain open only to squadrons reserving the space for physical training sessions.

"This is a new place to work out and put my mark on as far as setting new personal records," said Staff Sgt. John Vaughan, 52nd Component Maintenance Squadron avionics intermediate station team leader. "I can deal with a couple days not being able to lift here, and I look forward to trying out the new building."
