Medical Service Corps officers, Health Services Management Appreciation Week: Oct. 6-10 Published Oct. 1, 2008 By Capt. Cory Baker 52nd Medical Support Squadron SPANGDAHLEM AIR BASE, Germany -- Each year, the Air Force Medical Service recognizes a group of officer, enlisted, and civilian members who comprise the Air Force Medical Service Corps. This group of Airmen is charged with the responsibility of running the business of the Air Force Medical Service. With a primary mission of supporting caregivers with whom our patients are most familiar, Medical Service Corps members are generally the behind-the-scenes personnel who constitute the foundation of care Air Force patients receive. Medical Service Corps Airmen work across a broad spectrum of health care administration career fields. They support the Air Force and its patients through planning, programming, and operations related to the following activities: medical facility command, medical materiel and services management, medical resources and financial management, health plan management, patient administration, personnel administration (human resources), war and emergency planning, aeromedical evacuation, medical recruiting, medical facility administration, repair, modification, and construction, biometrics, health information systems, data systems design, medical research administration, and health services training and education. The Air Force Medical Service will recognize these medical professionals, who are the foundation of the military healthcare system, Oct. 6-10.
