Trier hosts 32nd annual Altstadtfest
SPANGDAHLEM AIR BASE, Germany – Trier’s old city will celebrate its traditional, or old city festival, for the 32nd time in history from June 22-24. An entertainment program will be offered for the three days. There will be five larger and three smaller stages and all activities take place mainly between the Porta Nigra and Neustrasse. An amusement park, an art market and various traditional German and international cuisine food booths can be found in the streets of Trier for the festival. 6/18/2012 - SPANGDAHLEM AIR BASE, Germany -- Trier celebrates its 32nd annual Altstadtfest, or old city festival, June 22 - 24.

Activities at the festival, which is known to be the largest event of its kind in the region, are set up in different spots throughout the center of town, mainly between the Porta Nigra and Neustrasse.

Attractions include an amusement park, art market, traditional German and international cuisine booths.

The following highlights are scheduled at the market square, Dom Cathedral and in front of the Porta Nigra:

June 22

· The fest kicks off at 6 p.m. with opening remarks and the tapping of the first keg of beer by Klaus Jensen, mayor of Trier, in the main market square. Music and entertainment will follow.
· The "Philharmonic Quintett" performs 6 - 6:30 p.m. at the Domfreihof stage in front of the Dom Cathedral.
· "The J + T Project" performs from 6:30 - 8 p.m., "Mizzie and the Rough Boys" performs 8 - 10 p.m. and the "Cassandra Dee & Band" ensemble performs at 10 p.m. in the main market square.
· Salsa dances take place at 6:30 p.m. and 7 p.m at the Porta Nigra stage.
· "The Bloque 53" band performs Caribbean music 7:30 - 9:30 p.m. and a Zumba dance performance takes place 9:30 - 10 p.m. at the Porta Nigra.
· "Frank Rohles and Friends" performs at 8 p.m. in front of the Dom Cathedral.

June 23

· Traditional German brass bands and local youth orchestras perform 11 a.m. - 6:30 p.m at the main market stage.
· "The Weitersagen singt Westernhagen" band performs at 9 p.m. at the market square.
· The "Nigra Casamento" band performs at 1 p.m., "The Fanatic Five" performs at 4 p.m. and "SWR3" performs at 8 p.m. in front of the Porta Nigra.

· "Top of the Rocks" performs 2 - 6 p.m., "The Henry-Nicht cool" and "Funky P" perform 6:45 - 8:30 p.m. at the Domfreihof in front of the Dom Cathedral.

June 24

· The International Trier City Run begins at 10 a.m. and takes place throughout the streets of the city.
· "SWT-Band" performs at 11 a.m., magician Leonardo performs at 1:30 p.m., the "Douple Uplife" band performs at 5:30 p.m. and the "Die Professoren" band performs at 8 p.m. at the main market square.
· "Ruwertal Winzerkapelle Kasel Vintners" performs at 3 p.m., "The Leiendecker Bloas" performs at 4 p.m., "Gerd-Blume-Show" performs at 6:30 p.m. and "The Rattles" perform at 9 p.m. at the Porta Nigra
· A Gospel Celebration takes place 2 - 4 p.m. in front of the Dom Cathedral.
· Folk music bands perform 5 - 7 p.m. in front of the Roman basilica.

Parking will be limited because this is a large celebration. It is advised to use "Park and Ride" designated parking lots located on the outskirts of the city, the city bus or taxi.

It is not recommended to take small children to the evening events or concerts.
German police will enforce alcohol controls.
