France and its historic provinces

SAINTE-MARIE-DU-MONT, France -- The bell tower in this church was used as an observation post during World War II. The 101st Airborne Division dropped parachutists into the town June 6, 1944, and liberated the citizens. There are plaques on buildings all around town with interesting stories about what happened in and around the town on D-Day. (U.S. Air Force photo/Senior Master Sgt. Valerie J. Weaver)
