SPANGDAHLEM AIR BASE, Germany -- Circus shows: August 2-4

Circus Roncalli will be in town now through Aug. 4 in Trier. Shows are Aug. 2-3, at 3 p.m. and 7:30 p.m., and Aug. 4, at 2 p.m. and 6 p.m. The ticket prices range between 15 and 59 Euros, depending on your seats. Reduced prices are between 12 and 54 Euros. Reduced prices are available groups tickets and for children under 14 years of age and students, senior or handicapped individuals. There is a 20 percent reduction for groups of ten and more. Wine festivals: Aug. 2-26

If you wish to experience a fun wine festival this weekend, visit the suburb of Trier Olewig for a fireworks display Aug. 2 at 11 p.m. afternoons and evenings Aug. 3-5. Wine sampling and delicious food snacks will be offered along the streets of town. The event ends Aug.5.

A wine festival also takes place Aug. 1-5 in Zeltingen-Rachtig, located on the way to Bernkastel-Kues when going through Wittlich.

A major wine festival takes place in Cochem Aug. 22-26.

Street displays in Trier: Aug. 2-Oct. 18

Enjoy seeing the Trier-Luxembourg 2013 first Elephant Parade July 19 through Oct. 18 throughout the city of Trier. The event features a colourful outdoor public art exhibition showcasing unique elephant sculptures decorated by talented artists.

Cochem Castle festival: Aug. 4

The scenic town of Cochem holds their annual Reichsburg castle festival Aug. 4, from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.

Flea market: Aug. 4-11

Local flea markets take place Aug. 4 in Bollendorf, located on the German-Luxembourg border, near Echternach; and at the Daun Bahnhof. Sales stands are typically open from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.

Flea markets are also scheduled to take place Aug. 10 at the Irrel festival grounds, at the Pruem Mehrzweck hall, at the Trier Moselauen fairgrounds and along the Zelting Mosel shore. Sales stands are typically open from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.

Local village festival near Bruch castle: Aug. 9-12

The community of Bruch will celebrate their annual "Kirmes" community festival Aug. 9-12 with food and beverage booths to open at 5 p.m.

Aug. 9- dance music provided by the "No Name" band during the evening
Aug. 10- concerts by various local music associations will take place throughout the afternoon
Aug. 11- enjoy food specialties, including the traditional Hungarian Schaschlik dish on all days of the festival; coffee and cake served at low cost in the afternoon
Aug. 12- live music by Joe Casel, featuring classic rock and modern tunes at 8 p.m.

Highlight festival with fireworks display: Aug. 10

The popular Koblenz "Rhine in flames" and "Rhine aflame on the Rhine river" festival takes place Aug. 10, featuring nine giant fireworks displays along the Mosel river in the towns of Koblenz, Spay, Braubach, Rhens and Lahnstein. More than 70 Rhine riverboats with over 30,000 people on board glide from the Boppard Hamm to the Deutsche Eck or German corner in Koblenz for the spectacle. German corner is where the Rhine and Mosel rivers join. The fireworks in Koblenz will start off around 11 p.m. from the castle Stolzenfels and the Koenigsbacher brewery. Multiple fireworks displays also take place from the Ehrenbreitstein fortress located across from the Deutsche Eck.

Bicycling event: Aug. 18

Ruwer Aktiv, similar to Happy Mosel, features a festival and vehicle-free day for bicyclers, skaters and marchers Aug. 18 between Trier-Ruwer and Reveris.

Popular local pig burners festival in Wittlich: Aug. 16-20

People can pig out at the annual Wittlich pig festival Aug. 16-20. This is a major, traditional festival which has gained much popularity.

Benelux country fair with amusement park: Aug. 23-Sept. 11

The Luxembourg Schobermesse, also known as the Luxembourg Octoberfest, is the largest fair of the Benelux countries and attracts visitors from the borderland countries of Luxembourg, Belgium and Germany, and takes place Aug. 23 until Sept. 11 this year in the center of Luxembourg city.

Popular local medieval castle festival: Aug. 24-25

The community of Manderscheid will sponsor their annual medieval castle festival Aug. 24-25. This is a very popular event in the local area, offering fun to the entire family. A nice medieval entertainment program and market are scheduled.

Highlight Middle-Mosel wine festival in Bernkastel: Aug. 30-Sep. 4

The great Middle Mosel wine festival of Bernkastel-Kues, featuring large-scale entertainment and a giant fireworks display takes place Aug. 30-Sept. 4 throughout the town of Bernkastel-Kues. The fireworks display, known to be one of the best in the local area, kicks off around 9:30 or 10 p.m., Aug. 31. A colourful festival parade is scheduled early afternoon, Sept. 1. This is a highlight event of the region.

Local Fashing parade to take place in the middle of summer: Aug. 31, sign-up by Aug. 5

Together with the local community, the carnivals' association of Landscheid-Niederkail celebrates their 44th anniversary with a variety of events this year. One part of the celebrations is a special Fasching parade scheduled to take place in the middle of summer, at 6 p.m. Aug. 31, featuring the motto: crazy and colourful like the 70s. People, wishing to participate in the parade in a group, dressed up in outfits focusing on the 70s, may sign up no later than 5 August by sending an short email to sommerumzug2013@gmail.com. Decorated vehicles or wagons of any sort, matching the motto, are welcome to drive in the parade also. The most original and nicest costume-groups will be awarded with prizes.
A party and entertainment with music provided by the "First Choice Showband" will follow at the Niederkail community hall.

World-famous sausage market and wine festival: Sept. 6-10

Have fun at the world-famous Bad Duerkheim sausage festival from Sept. 6-10. This is a highlight event in Germany, featuring a huge amusement area, large festival tents, music and fun.

Trier Museums' Night: Sept. 21-22

The annual Trier Museums' Night takes place Sept. 21-22 this year, when all museum of the city will be open to visitors until late at night.
