Order up for changes at Club Eifel Published April 24, 2012 By Senior Airman Natasha Stannard 52nd Fighter Wing Public Affairs SPANGDAHLEM AIR BASE, Germany -- Club Eifel members can book parts of or the entire club ballroom starting May 1. The ballroom closed in December, and the approximately $500,000 in renovations fixed the room's ceiling and partitions, which can now slide out to divide the ballroom into five smaller rooms. Having this capability allows the club staff to host up to five parties, meetings, events or functions at once. "Now you can divide the ballroom into one big room or five separate rooms," said Larry Garrett, Club Eifel general manager. "We can book five different events for one time, but this is strictly for small functions. Before, the ballroom wasn't capable of this." Garrett added that two sections of the ballroom include full bars, and both bars can be used when the entire ballroom is booked for large functions like promotion ceremonies. Additionally, three of the rooms have projectors and all five rooms will have visual presentation capabilities. The club is also serving up changes to other parts of its facility this summer to include: · A European style coffee bar in the officers' club. · A new atmosphere at the Saber Sports Lounge. · New services and choices at J.R. Rockers. "These changes make Club Eifel a highly desirable location for Airmen and their families because it gives them variety in regard to multiple food and entertainment venues based on what they asked for through the [wing] commander's focus groups," said Kevin Hacker, Club Eifel assistant manager. The officers' club coffee bar is set to feature European and American continental breakfasts, wireless internet, and entertainment after 5 p.m. Patrons of the coffee bar can even volunteer at the coffee bar to perform as the entertainment, he said. The enlisted club will also offer a new atmosphere as it transforms into a sports lounge. The new sports lounge will boast Saber sports memorabilia and host viewings for major sporting events by September. It is still open for people 18 and older, and base teams can start dropping off and donating their jerseys and sports equipment to the club now. "The Saber Sports Lounge is promoting and wanting the Saber sports teams to show off their squadron pride," he said. "This will be an opportunity for the teams to make it their own bar." Another addition to the sports lounge and J.R. Rockers is the installation of a door connecting the two areas. This installation not only gives families and friends the ability to move between the two with ease, but it gives the club the ability to eventually provide sit-down service for both the lounge and the restaurant. The sports lounge will open from 11a.m. to 11 p.m. once the door is installed, he said. "The end goal is to have sit-down service at J.R. Rockers and the sports lounge," he said. J.R. Rockers is also getting a salad bar that will feature various toppings, two to three different types of lettuce and two hot soups a day. "We want the club to be the place of choice for Airmen and their families," Garrett said. "We're trying to give them a place to come as single Airmen or as a family. We don't just cater to one type of person. We want to be multifaceted and offer anything and everything we can for Airmen and their families."
