Members of the Spangdahlem military community and invited guests are set to celebrate decades of friendship at a 60th Anniversary event held in Hangars 1 and 2, May 10, 2013.
"I invite you to join me in celebrating 60 years of friendship between our Saber Airmen and the local communities," said Col. David Julazadeh, 52nd Fighter Wing commander. "This 60th Anniversary celebration is about you ... to showcase your capabilities and contributions to defending American and allied interests, and your enduring commitment to building partner capacity."

The 60th Anniversary will feature demonstrations from the 52nd Security Force Squadron K-9 unit, 52nd Civil Engineer Squadron fire department and explosive ordnance disposal flight, 52nd Medical Group, 52nd Fighter Wing safety office, military and civilian aircraft displays and equipment provided by various units throughout the base. Also, a separate children's section complete with bouncy castles and other youth activities can be found in Hangar 2, while food and beverage booths will be located outside Hangar 1.

U.S. service members, civilian employees, family members and local national employees with escort privileges are highly encouraged to bring their German friends and neighbors to the event. A maximum of five guests can be escorted per ID card holder; however, local national contractors will not be allowed to sign visitors on base. Sponsors can obtain passes starting May 6 by stopping by the Visitor Control Center with their guests and their identification cards (i.e. Auswies or passport numbers). It is important that guests remain with their sponsors at all times for safety reasons.

The 52nd Logistics Readiness Squadron will provide shuttle services to and from the event at designated parking areas on base. They include the Saber driving course and the base theater. Because parking is limited in these areas, additional parking can be found on Goodfellow and Arnold Avenues and at the 81st Fighter Squadron. It is highly encouraged that people carpool whenever possible due to the limited parking on base.

Also, people should know that certain items will not be allowed in the event area for safety reason. These items include: pyrotechnics, firearms or weapons, coolers, glass bottles, knives, paint, corrosive or explosive chemicals, pets (unless one is needed for assistance) bicycles, roller blades, skates or in-line skates, wheelie tennis shoes and skateboards. However, the following items are allowed in the event area but are subject to a search: diaper bags, fanny packs or purses, camera, camcorders, media bags and coolers with medications.

The following is a schedule of events that is subject to change without notice:

"I am very excited to celebrate 60 years of teamwork and cooperation," said Lt. Col. George Stanley, 60th Anniversary event coordinator. "It is much shorter and sweeter than the originally planned open house, but we still want to sincerely thank our gracious hosts and showcase our equipment, our Airmen and our capabilities for as many Sabers, their families and locals from the Eifel as possible."
