World War II fighter unearthed 65 years later
BITBURG, Germany – Staff Sgt. Matthew Bright, 52nd Fighter Wing Public Affairs broadcaster, documents an interview with Rudolph Rinnen, public relations specialist for Volksbank Bitburg, during a press event March 24. Wreckage of a P-47D Thunderbolt was discovered Feb. 24 after being buried for 65 years. German and American reports detail that on Feb. 14, 1945, an American P-47D was shot down in the area.
