CFC-O extended to Dec. 6 Published Nov. 7, 2013 By Staff Sgt. Joe W. McFadden 52nd Fighter Wing Public Affairs SPANGDAHLEM AIR BASE, Germany -- As a further opportunity for more people to participate, Spangdahlem's Combined Federal Campaign-Overseas will run through Dec. 6. Since the campaign began Sept. 16, Airmen and their families endured the economic tensions caused by a government shutdown, an increased conversion rate for the Euro and rising fuel prices. Despite it all, Spangdahlem Airmen have already raised $117,261.59 through payroll deductions, E-Pledge or cash/check donations for the CFC's multitude of charities and causes. "Many of us have been blessed with so much," said Master Sgt. Jasmine Barnes, 52nd Fighter Wing Equal Opportunity specialist and CFC coordinator for Spangdahlem. "Giving back is a great way to show our thankfulness." Barnes said the extension also presents another chance for Airmen to learn about the campaign. According to the latest wing estimate, nearly one in five Sabers have not yet been contacted. Consider if those who have not yet been contacted chose to not buy one espresso a month for a year. Their collective totals would measure more than $36,000 - a figure that could represent endless possibilities for school children, victims of domestic abuse and medical patients. "We never want someone to miss out on the opportunity to give because they did not know about the campaign," Barnes said. "There are too many people in need." The process of filling out a donation form may take 10 minutes. While that time may represent an inconvenience or blink-of-an-eye, Barnes suggested prospective donors consider what that could represent to people in need. "Those minutes could change the course of history for someone," she said. "One of my favorite quotes is 'An action takes a second, but the memory can last a lifetime.'" With weeks now remaining until the new deadline, Barnes said Airmen considering a donation should consider what their contribution will represent to someone else past the moment they complete the form. "One of the best kept secrets in life is: 'the more you give, the more you get,'" Barnes said. "When you give, you get more to give away. Sometimes it is not a tangible return on your investment, but I promise there is always a return when you bless someone else."
