Seven senior master sergeants received a ceremonial stripe symbolizing the pinnacle of their career progression during a Chief Master Sergeant Recognition Ceremony at Club Eifel Jan. 24.

The Spangdahlem Chiefs Group sponsored the event to laud the chief-selects upon their upcoming induction into the top one percent of the Air Force's enlisted ranks.

"You've been selected for promotion to a very special and influential rank that very few of our Airmen within our enlisted corps rarely have the opportunity to hold," said Chief Master Sgt. Matthew Grengs, 52nd FW command chief. "Wherever the Air Force leads you, there are always opportunities to make a difference in the Air Force and for the Airmen and families you will be responsible for."

Retired Chief Master Sergeant of the Air Force Robert Gaylor, the fifth chief to serve in the Air Force's highest enlisted position, recorded a video message to the selectees about the importance of their promotion.

"What a great milestone in your career and one you can be very proud of," Gaylor said. "But you can't just be a chief -- I want you to be the best chief you can possibly be. It's more than just sewing on a chevron or drawing more pay. It is an absolute responsibility to serve our United States Air Force to the best of your ability. Anything less than that is unacceptable."
