Name: SSgt Derek Ryan Kreiner

Unit:
372nd Training Squadron, Detachment 17

Duty title: F-16 Avionics Systems Instructor

Hometown: Holly, Mich.

Years in Service: Five years, seven months

Why joined: I joined the Air Force to succeed in life. After high school, I wanted to make something of myself and become the man I was meant to be. I knew that if I stayed at home that would not happen. So I joined the Air Force and don't regret a second of it, because without enlisting, I would not have the knowledge, skills and life experiences I now possess.

Family: Happily married for seven months

Hobbies: Carpentry and anything outdoors

Favorite aspect of job: Passing on my knowledge to the next generation of Airmen and preparing them for what may come their way.

Most memorable Air Force experience: Taking an incentive flight in an F-16 Fighting Falcon fighter aircraft while on temporary duty at Tyndall Air Force Base, Fla., when I actually got to fly the jet.

How do you make responsible choices: I think about the outcome of my actions and weigh the results. If my choices in life could bring harm to myself or someone else in any way, then that's something I will not do.
