The Spangdahlem Air Base community has many opportunities for its members to celebrate Halloween.

However, there are some items of which parents should be aware.

The 52nd Fighter Wing Safety office encourages parents to take responsibility of their children as they Trick or Treat. Children themselves should be aware of roadways, potholes and uneven surfaces as they walk to and from the homes in base housing.

For costume safety, the materials should fit properly, and the child should be able to see and breathe.

Decorations can sometimes become a fire hazard, so lights and smoke machines should not be placed near any of the entry or exit points of a building.

Automobile operators should drive slowly and be cautious on and off base for children Trick or Treating.

Airmen from the 52nd Security Forces Squadron are currently scheduled to perform a Pumpkin Patrol -- an extra security presence in the base housing area -- from 6-8 p.m. Oct 31, 2014.
