A&FRC challenges Sabers during Military Saves Week

SPANGDAHLEM AIR BASE, Germany --  Spangdahlem's Airman & Family Readiness Center will sponsor financial awareness seminars as part of Military Saves Week Feb. 23-27. 

The events will coincide with the annual nationwide Department of Defense initiative to reach out to military communities and encourage service members and their families to save money, reduce debt and build wealth over time.

"Military Saves Week is an opportunity for our military community to come together with federal, state and local resources, including military banks and credit unions, to focus on the financial readiness of military members and their families and help them reduce debt and save their hard-earned money," said U.S. Army Gen. Martin Dempsey, chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, and U.S. Marine Corps Sgt. Maj. Bryan Battaglia, senior enlisted advisor to the CJCS, in a Sept. 24, 2014, memorandum. "It is particularly important to engage our military spouses who play a vital role in ensuring the financial well-being and stability of military families. Furthermore, by learning good financial habits early in life, our children will strengthen their financial fitness for the future."

Col. Joe McFall, 52nd Fighter Wing commander, signed a proclamation at the A&FRC Feb. 19 to kickoff the week's events.  

"I hereby call upon all members of the Saber Nation to set a personal savings or debt reduction goal, make a simple savings plan and take action on that plan, or take another positive wealth building action during Military Saves Week, and pledge to sustain that action during the following year," said McFall, in the proclamation.

The Airman & Family Readiness Center will offer a number of free events as part of the week aimed to help Sabers build wealth, not debt.
